Tuesday, April 4 - Side Trip to Vegas
We woke up Tuesday morning to gray skies and rain, not the best weather for our planned trip to the Huntington Botanical Gardens. We had breakfast and hung out in the hotel room reading and reviewing pictures, waiting for the storm to break. It wasn't letting up so we drove over to the gardens to see how bad it would be in the rain (after picking up two very large umbrellas at Target). The rain was starting to come down almost sideways, so we decided on plan B: Vegas! We had planned to drive to Needles, California later in the day anyways, and Vegas was only about 90 miles from there.
As we drove east, Rick called ahead and booked us tickets to The Blue Man Group and a room at the Venetian. We encountered driving rain for the first hour but then the skies cleared up ahead of us and it looked really nice. We made really quick time (except for the hour where we sat waiting to get past a short single lane section...), arriving at the Venetian at 6:05pm. Our show didn't start until 7:30, so we checked in, dropped out stuff in the room and headed down to the Aquanox restaurant which was right across the hall from the theater. We had cocktails and an appetizer and then went to the show.
The Blue Man Group is a performance art group that mixes music and visuals into a really fun, funny performance. We really enjoyed it! Afterwards we had made reservations back at Aquanox where we had a delicious seafood dinner before heading up to our room for bed. Who knew we'd be in Vegas on this trip?
